The main highlight of the program is the focus on cross-cultural sensitivity. It does not only form a substantive part of the training programme, but it is practically experienced through the ASM facilities and on-campus activities. It creates an inter-cultural community dynamic which

Program Features:
The training programme is designed to achieve integrated mission and ministry training focusing on the heart, head and hands of the student. "The heart" refers to character and spiritual development, "the head" relates to the acquiring of knowledge and understanding and "the hands" being the practical application of the participant's overall development.

"The heart": Character and Spiritual Development
ASM places a high value on the development of a Christ-like character and recognizes that this change comes through personal disciplines, life experiences and Christian encouragement. Personal intimacy with God and a lifestyle of prayer, worship and obedience is encouraged amongst all in the ASM community. We facilitate this through various programme activities such as:
  • Corporate worship
  • Small groups
  • Organized intercession
  • Intensive weeks of specialized teaching
  • Community living
  • Campus work duties
"The head": Knowledge and understanding
The programs presented cover a wide spectrum of relevant topics, forming a good foundation for leaders who want to be on the cutting edge of World missions and ministry. It consists of both theoretical and skills training and seeks to remain relevant by continually incorporating the latest developments in contemporary ministry and World missions.

Christian Life Skills Year
ASM realized the need for a training programme focussing on foundational training in biblical and ministry skills. This gave birth to the Christian Life Skills Programme. The training relates well to the African context and creates an opportunity for the less privileged national leaders and believers to further their training. It incorporates basic biblical studies, life skills training, social studies and ministry experience. This year is also stipulated as prerequisite to the Auxiliary Nursing Training. Our nurses are therefore prepared to enter the profession with a calling to serve the wider community.

Missions Service Year (Certificate in Theology and Ministry)
The Missions Service Year is a vibrant and exciting foundational year in Christian ministry. It is for emerging leaders wanting to give a year of their lives for growing and serving the generation in which they live. It also serves as a foundation programme aimed at those wanting to enter into fulltime ministry and missions. Areas of focus include: Personal spiritual growth, Character development and discipleship, Overview of the Bible and Theology, Skills Training and Creative Ministry, Understanding World Missions, Practical work and Outreaches, Teamwork and Leadership.

Enrolled Auxiliary Nurse's Programme
The nursing school at ASM offers a 1 year Enrolled Auxiliary Nurse's Programme. This is the equivalent of the first year of a 4 year general nurses training programme. It is approved by the SA Nursing Council and accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training.

This training is a valuable opportunity for people preparing for the mission field to do both nursing and missions training at the same institution. In keeping with the values and ethos of ASM, candidates are all required to do at least the Christian Life Skills Year or the Certificate in Theology and Ministry. This training has also been valuable in empowering young men and women from local communities to join the nursing profession with the desire to see society being impacted by the love of Jesus Christ.

Diploma in Theology and Ministry (Available in 2013)
Leaders are those willing to continually explore new strategies and relevant methods to answer the challenges posed by the current Global village in which we find ourselves. This two year diploma is designed to facilitate the growth of knowledge and understanding of key areas of service across a wide spectrum of society, ranging from urban settings to un-reached tribal groups.

Gateway to Africa Program (Available in 2013)
The Joshua Project lists 968 people groups in Africa as "least reached". Africa is also recognized as an emerging missions force taking responsibility for sharing the gospel not only in Africa but in the rest of the world. Many Christians have a burden to serve in Africa as pioneer missionaries or working with the local church in reaching out to those around her.

ASM is privileged to be surrounded by rural African communities and situated on the border of Mozambique, Swaziland and other African countries. With the help of different well-known mission organizations and African leaders, ASM will offer a one year specialized internship program to prepare those missionaries wanting to serve in Africa.

Specialized Courses in Cross Cultural Missions (Available in 2013)
ASM will be the host to many specialized courses relating to World Evangelism. This will be in the form of short courses and / or seminars. It will be offered based on the availability of facilitators and participant numbers. Courses will focus mainly on skills training to be used on the mission field.

"The hands": Missions and Ministry Exposure
At ASM, one of our core values is to prepare men and women for ministry in a practical way. Opportunities are created for programme participants to serve God in a cross cultural environment through community development, urban missions, social involvement and evangelization. Participants of the programme are expected to actively engage in the surrounding local communities on a weekly basis. We also have outcome based outreaches planned for every program.
