BEKA BERKOVIC
I was born and raised in Croatia but I am half British. I spent 3 amazing years studying at ASM, from 2008 until 2010.
It was a life changing time for me and a time in which God revealed his heart for missions. ASM was not just a school, but a home and a family where I believe God had
his way with me.
I now serve in Bangkok, Thailand. I am part of an organization called World Outreach and I am teaching English at one of the few Bible Schools in Bangkok.
I have a heart for youth and students so working in this area is a dream come true. As I teach 3 days a week, I have also joined another ministry in the heart of
Bangkok where we work with ladyboys and dancers from the red light districts. It's challenging work but I am sure of the love God has for these people and this
thought gives me strength on a daily basis.
ASM TESTIMONY BY BARRY & JULIA FUNNELL (Jul 2010)
We studied at ASM from 1988 to 1990 doing a Licenciate in Christian ministries specializing in Bible Translation.
The excellent preparation we received from the 3 years at ASM launched us into a very exciting missionary career of some 20 years now.
The frequent visits and cross cultural ministry opportunities to Legogote, and the townships surrounding it; the spiritual and Biblical nurturing we received;
as well as the sound academic training enabled us to work in Malawi with The Word for the World Bible Translators (TWFTW). We recruited and trained a team of
translators, who completed the Sena Bible in ten years (1991 – 2001). We then went to Tanzania for a further 5 year period,
where we started 10 Bible translation projects, which are being lead by nationals in Tanzania which we trained (2004 – 2008). Five more projects have recently been added.
We recently moved to the UK to help establish TWFTW UK as an effective support base for our 46 Bible translation and 3 literacy projects.
I (Barry) also lectured in our training program and done Bible translation consultancy in Africa and India, and have also done training in the Ukraine.
Although I became a paraplegic in 1982, God has blessed me with a wonderful wife and three children, Lisa (17), Timothy (14) and Daniel (7),
all adopted from birth. We recently celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary.
PIETER AND LIEZL KRUGER – NEW ZEALAND
We are a family of four who live and work at Stedfast Park in Piha, West Auckland. Piha is a surfing town on the West coast of Auckland, New Zealand. Pieter is the caretaker/maintenance man/host/facilitator/problem-solver and more! Liesl is a stay home mum that also gets involved with all camps and groups that use the camp.
We have a vast array of groups ranging from motorcycle groups to family reunions to school camps. Each and every group is different and an opportunity to show the love of God. Our main goal is to communicate the Gospel, save the lost, obey God's will, grow in faith and be servants in the world.
TREVOR AND MARIA- BOTSWANA
When I heard the Lord calling me to seminary, I knew that I wanted to go to one with a difference! I wrote a list of things that I wanted from a Bible College and upon receiving the prospectus from ASM, my search was over. ASM had everything that I wanted including being able to live on campus, local ministry involvement and an international student body.
The three years I spent at ASM were fantastic and shaped my life powerfully for ministry.
After graduating from ASM in 2007, my wife and I joined World-Wide Evangelism for Christ International which has taken us to Brazil and now to Botswana. Our work in Botswana is to assist in building the local church and also to set up the first regional office here. Our work involves a lot of preaching and ASM equipped me with that powerful tool for effective ministry…..
JOSEPH AND EDWINA CHARLES - THAILAND
We are a family of 4 from Cape-Town and are graduates from ASM College, White River. By the grace of God we are well and are serving the Lord already for 8 years in Thailand. Our vision is the exalting of the Name of Jesus Christ by the people of Thailand and the transformation of their communities by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We serve with WEC Thailand partners with Bonds of Fellowship churches to plant mobilized indigenous reproducing churches. We are also reaching out at present to work in partnership with other mission organizations to reach villages with yet no known Christians. We will recommend ASM to any individual or family who are interested serving the Lord in fulltime mission work. The courses offered are relevant and are taught by a dedicated staff.
TERENCE AND NELIA VAN NIEKERK - ROMANIA
We are working with a very poor Gypsy and Turkish community, situated on the outskirts of Calarasi, Romania. This community, called Caramidari/Obor has very much been
rejected by society. Our primary focus is to share the Gospel and Love of Jesus Christ with them. We do this through various ways, of which one-on-one relationship building
(through spending time with individuals and families) is one of our main methods. Other methods include reaching out to the children by having a children’s club three times a week, church planting
(having a church service once a week), praying with individuals and families, and counseling.
We also try to help people to buy their prescription medication (as many can’t afford this), offering basic medical advise, handing out physical aid like clothing, baby strollers, food items, etc.
(when we have available).
Our three years at ASM was a very valuable time for us. The inter-cultural community living helped to prepare us for daily living with a new culture in Romania.
Our training at School of Health was also very valuable.
Especially the practical experience we received during our practical hours at rural clinics, mobile clinic and a government hospital, enabled us to assist the people we are reaching out to,
with basic medical advice and help. We wouldn’t exchange our time and training at ASM for anything!
ALFRED AND BELINDA PAETZOLD – NEW TRIBES MISSION, MOZAMBIQUE
In 2000 we graduated from ASM and have been in full time missions work since then. We are working with New Tribes Mission in northern Mozambique. Our vision is to plant an
indigenous, reproducing church in an unreached people group in the north-west of Mozambique.
At ASM we learned many valuable lessons – in and out of class! The classes on Animism, Cross-cultural communication, Muslim evangelism and Perspectives on World Evangelism
are just some of the subjects that have shaped our lives and ministry. The time at ASM have made our work much more effective and we have appreciated our training many times
over the past 8 years!
God wants us to be effective communicators and we believe that at ASM we have had a good and solid training from which we can reach out to a world in
need. The world needs clear witnesses – so many times we come from our own culture to theirs without even thinking about what we are saying or how it may be seen from another
culture. God guides and prepares His children for the work He has for them and we are thankful for the part that ASM has played in our lives.
SVETLANA KUTUSHEVA - CAMBODIA
I am a Russian girl doing mission work in Cambodia since April 2007.
My vision is empowering the poor, equipping the leaders that they can know Jesus and make Him known.
I am working with Children in the villages.
Knowing my call for Cambodia, ASM gave me all the necessary knowledge and training of how to work on the mission field;
God matured me and made me bold and persistent in my vision for Cambodia and more passionate for the lost;
ASM developed my skills to communicate and work with people from different societies and races and cultures;
